Dennis A. Haggray Bio

The Rev. Dr. Dennis A. Haggray is a native son of Savannah, Georgia and a product of the Savannah (Chatham County) Public School System.  He is the fifth child of eight born to the union of the late Deacon Edward Haggray (Piney Grove Baptist Church) and the late Deaconess Georgia Mae Haggray (Miller’s Temple Holiness Church). Dr. Haggray was converted and baptized by immersion at the age of 12 and preached his trial sermon at age 15.  He was initially licensed three months later as a minister. He is a servant leader who loves the Lord and God’s people. He was licensed and ordained a Baptist Minister at the Progressive Baptist Church of Chicago, Illinois May 2001 under the dynamic and capable leadership of The Rev. Dr. Christopher Allen Bullock.  He served PBC in several leadership positions. 

Dr. Haggray attended and received earned degrees (BA, M.S., M.Th. and Ph. D) in Higher Education in the areas of (psychology, education and sociology emphasis), Pastoral Psychology and Theology, Higher Education Administration (emphasis in administration, counseling and student development) from St. Augustine’s College Raleigh, NC., Boston University School of Theology, Boston, MA and Iowa State University, Ames, IA.

He has worked successfully and bi-vocationally as a pastor and Higher Education Administrator of Federal Trio Programs in Student Services, Instructor, and Counselor at various colleges and universities.   Dr. Haggray served Baptist and Methodist congregations (in Sanford, Southern Pines and Dunn, NC, Savannah, GA, Boston, MA, Dallas, Texas and Chicago, Illinois.  More recently, he served as the Senior Pastor of First Baptist Church, La Grange, Illinois.

He is married to Mildred Annette Haggray, Ph.D.  Annette is from Mt. Olive, NC and was raised in a loving Baptist family home/tradition. She is the Provost of Northern Virginia Community College Campus of Alexandria, VA. Their daughter Alexandria Nicole Haggray is a graduate of Delaware State University, Dover, DE.  The Haggray’s reside between Maryland and Virginia. 

 

Dr. Haggray has received many awards and recognition for his academic and professional achievements for years of service to his communities. He is a member of the PNBC and has served in the ABC and NBC churches. He is a member of Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity, Prince Hall Masons, NAACP and numerous professional educational organizations and ministerial alliances.  Upon arriving in Maryland, he was appointed to the Harford Youth Commission Board by the County Executive, Bel Air, MD.

He cherishes the prayers of the people as he walks by faith leaning on the Lord!
